Role Description:
An exceptional opportunity for a bright Junior Paralegal looking to join our dynamic and growing debt recovery team. Our specialist team provides debt recovery services and advice to a range of clients such as insolvency practitioners, finance houses, banks, corporates and private individuals.
You will be learning from and supported by Head of Debt Recovery, Partners and associates across a range of cases. You will be delivering swift, high-quality level of service to clients that focus on achieving the best commercial and cost-effective resolution.
Assist with the day-to-day handling of civil litigation claims, primarily debt recovery matters. The role involves issuing legal proceedings through either the SDT or Money Claims Online Platform (MCOL) right through to preparing for trial in line with court directions.
The position also includes managing incoming and outgoing post and ensuring the court diary is kept accurate and up to date daily.
The successful candidate will work closely with fee earners and support the wider team to ensure deadlines and procedural requirements are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities:
• Carrying out pre-litigation debt recovery work to include Letters of Claim, follow up telephone conversations, dealing with disputes at the pre-litigation stage, liaising with debtors
• Preparing claim to issue proceedings using the SDT or Money Claims Online Platform (MCOL)
• Preparing documents to accompany proceedings, to include Particulars of Claim, Replies to Defence, Direction Questionnaires, Tomlin Order, Consent Orders
• Carrying out negotiations and any Court arrange mediation appointments
• Enter and obtain Judgments and initiate appropriate enforcement action
• Draft and prepare witness statements and assist with preparing case documents for hearings
• Monitor and follow court directions, ensuring timelines and requirements are met
• Drafting of Statutory Demands, Bankruptcy Petitions, Winding Up Petitions
• Support the management of debt recovery from start to finish
• Provide regular case updates to clients and respond to queries in a timely manner
• Open and organise new claims, including set up files and processing initial paperwork
• Handle and process incoming and outgoing post related to ongoing cases
• Keep the court diary and internal systems updated with key dates and case progression
• Work closely with fee earners and provide general legal support where needed
• Accurate time keeping, record keeping and file maintenance
• To ensure that all client and matter records are made and maintained in line with the Firm’s procedures
• To observe office manuals and instruction books published by the Partners from time to time
• Other ad hoc duties as and when required
Requirements:
• Prior experience in a legal support or fee earning role, ideally within litigation or debt recovery
• Knowledge of the SDT and/or MCOL platform and civil court procedures
• Strong written communication and drafting skills
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage workload across multiple files and meet deadlines
• Competent in using Microsoft Office and legal case management software such as Visual Files
• Comfortable working both independently and as a part of a team
• Legal qualification (LLB, LPC, or equivalent) is beneficial but not essential
• Previous experience in a law firm or legal team with a focus on civil or debt recovery work
