We’re looking for a friendly, reliable Painter and Decorator / Maintenance Apprentice to help keep our hotel safe, comfortable, and running smoothly for guests and staff alike. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys hands‑on work and takes pride in a job well done.
The Francis Hotel is a 4‑star boutique hotel set across seven Grade I‑listed Georgian townhouses on Queen Square in central Bath. Following a major multi‑million‑pound refurbishment, the 98‑room property features individually designed bedrooms, the fire‑led Emberwood restaurant, and an Espuro thermal boutique spa.
What You’ll Do
- You’ll work across guest rooms and shared spaces, responding to maintenance requests, carrying out repairs, and helping prevent issues before they happen.
- You’ll also interact with guests and colleagues, so a positive attitude and clear communication are just as important as technical skills.
- Prepare surfaces for painting and decorating, including sanding, filling, and priming.
- Apply paint, wallpaper, and other finishes to walls, ceilings, and fixtures.
- Inspect guest rooms and public areas for cosmetic damage and wear.
- Perform basic maintenance tasks such as fixing doors, handles, locks, and fixtures.
- Carry out minor plumbing repairs (e.g. fixing leaks, replacing taps).
- Handle simple electrical tasks such as changing light bulbs and fittings.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of work areas and tools.
- Ensure all decorating and maintenance work meets health and safety standards.
- Respond promptly to maintenance and repair requests.
- Work efficiently to minimise disruption to guests and hotel operations.
- Assist with preventative maintenance to keep facilities in good condition.
- Report any major faults or repairs that require specialist attention.
Weekend Work
Weekend work required on a Saturday every 2nd / 3rd weekend, minimum of four hours.
Training Outcome
On successful completion of the apprenticeship you may have the opportunity to continue employment at the Francis Hotel.
