About the Experimental Histopathology (EHP) Science Technology Platform (STP): The EHP STP provides expert support for histology-based analysis of experimental tissues and human bioresources, while building institutional capability in areas such as experimental pathology, human disease modelling, advanced histological techniques and researcher training.
We are seeking a skilled Senior Laboratory Research Scientist to join the EHP STP. You will deliver and lead multiplex immunofluorescence projects using automated staining platforms, supporting cutting-edge research on experimental models and human tissues. Working closely with Crick researchers and other STPs, you will meticulously generate, record and manage experimental data. This includes preparing and documenting protocols and dilutions, ensuring all results are precise, consistent and reproducible. This role is ideal for an experienced scientist who enjoys problem-solving, training others and making a tangible impact on biomedical research.
What you’ll be doing:
- Delivering high-quality multiplex immunofluorescence (mIF/IF) projects that support cutting-edge Crick research.
- Optimising, validating and troubleshooting staining panels to ensure robust, reproducible results.
- Ensuring precise and consistent documentation of experimental data, protocols and dilutions.
- Planning and running experiments independently, managing priorities and timelines in collaboration with the EHP leadership team.
- Working closely with researchers to understand scientific questions and translate them into effective experimental approaches.
- Providing expert training and hands-on support in mIF/IF and related histology techniques.
- Driving continuous improvement by refining workflows and exploring new technologies within the platform.
- Contributing to smooth, safe day-to-day laboratory operations and a collaborative STP culture.
About you (Minimum Criteria: *)
- Strong hands-on experience in immunofluorescence staining and imaging, including optimisation and troubleshooting.
- A practical scientific background (degree or equivalent experience) with a commitment to quality and reproducibility.
- The ability to work independently, take ownership of complex technical work and manage multiple priorities.
- A proven track record as a problem-solver, with a flexible and solution-focused approach.
- Experience training or supporting others in laboratory techniques.
- Clear communication skills and an enjoyment of collaborative work in a busy research environment.
Desirable:
- A PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Experience with automated staining platforms (e.g. Leica Bond RX) and broader histology expertise, including tissue processing and sectioning.
