Francesca’s Recruitment Ltd is recruiting for a Finance Assistant / Assistant Accountant on behalf of our client based in Goldthorpe. This is a full-time, office-based role supporting the Finance Manager across costing, reporting, compliance, audit coordination and financial planning. The position offers an excellent opportunity to join a growing business and contribute to the long-term development of the finance function.
Role Overview
The role will support the Finance Manager with management reporting, financial reporting, statutory and non-statutory compliance, quarterly and annual audit preparation, and financial planning. This position plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial statements, strong internal controls, timely reporting and effective coordination with auditors and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit Management
- Assist with statutory, tax, internal and control audits
- Prepare and submit audit schedules, workings and documentation
- Support audit readiness processes to ensure smooth and accurate audits
- Monthly Closing and Reporting
- Assist with month-end close within three working days
- Review accounts for variance and comparative analysis
- Support preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements
- Costing and Cost Management
- Support trend and variance analysis
- Assist with cost review cycles and alignment with budgets
- Support cost rectification and improvement actions
- Inventory Control
- Monitor stock levels and investigate discrepancies
- Lead quarterly stock counts and post-audit adjustments
- Analyse slow-moving and ageing stock
- Analytical Review
- Perform P and L and Balance Sheet variance analysis
- Provide insights to management for decision-making
- Fixed Assets
- Maintain the fixed asset register
- Manage capitalisation, disposals, transfers and depreciation
Skills and Competencies
- Strong analytical and financial skills
- High attention to detail
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
- Process-driven with a continuous improvement mindset
Experience and Qualifications
- Professional finance qualification such as ACCA, CIMA or AAT
- Minimum five years post-qualification experience in industry
- Experience in costing, financial reporting, audit and compliance
- Knowledge of UK financial legislation
- Experience using Sage 200
