Framework Housing Association is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, compassionate and dynamic SMD Senior Carer to join the team at Edwin House, a Care Quality Commission rated Good care setting in Radford, Nottingham. As the lead provider of drug and alcohol treatment within Nottingham City, Framework offers an exciting opportunity to work in a specialist residential care service supporting people with complex needs linked to historic or current problematic substance use. About Edwin House Edwin House is a 41-bed specialist residential SMD care service, supporting people who may experience a range of complex support, care and health needs, including substance use, homelessness and mental health. About the role As an SMD Senior Carer, you will provide high standards of care and support while working proactively with service users to help them gain greater control over their substance use, improve their quality of life and build recovery capital. You will also play a key role in leading, motivating and supporting the team to achieve positive outcomes for the people using the service. Key responsibilities Assess, plan, implement and review person-centred care and support plans, ensuring they reflect individual needs, risks and desired outcomes. Provide person-centred support around physical health needs, including nutrition, mobility, long-term conditions and access to healthcare services. Deliver high-quality, trauma-informed care that recognises the impact of substance use, mental health and social disadvantage. Undertake and review risk assessments and support plans, promoting independence while maintaining safety. Support residents to engage with treatment services, GP appointments and recovery pathways. Provide day-to-day supervision and guidance to SMD Shift Leads and SMD Care Workers. Deliver six-weekly one-to-one supervision sessions with SMD Shift Leads and SMD Care Workers, supporting performance, development and wellbeing. Lead care delivery effectively by allocating tasks, ensuring safe staffing and maintaining high standards of care. Ensure staff understand and implement care plans, risk management strategies and organisational policies. Ensure full compliance with infection prevention and control policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. Monitor hygiene standards, safe working practices and correct use of PPE. Maintain a clean, safe and homely environment for residents through oversight of domestic and environmental standards. Ensure working practices meet relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks, including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, CQC Fundamental Standards, commissioner quality assurance standards and contractual requirements. Promote best practice in safeguarding, capacity assessments, consent and least restrictive care. Work in partnership with treatment services, mental health services, housing providers and other external agencies. Maintain accurate, up-to-date and compliant care records, risk assessments and daily logs. Contribute to audits, quality assurance processes and continuous service improvement. About you We are looking for someone who is compassionate, organised and confident when working with people who have complex needs. You will have excellent time management, organisational, communication and people management skills, and the ability to lead and motivate others to achieve positive outcomes. You should also have an understanding of the wider issues affecting people who use substances, including homelessness and mental health issues. Previous experience in care, support, substance use, mental health, homelessness or a related setting would be beneficial.
