This is a new role within our team. Framestore’s Crowd Technical Directors are responsible for creating the motion of crowds, including animating and simulating tens of thousands of characters for high‑end visual effects films.
What you’ll do:
- Develop locomotion, motion, and triggering behaviours to achieve diverse crowd looks
- Utilise both proprietary and off‑the‑shelf crowd software to deliver top‑quality results
- Lead a global team of artists while staying on schedule and maintaining high standards
- Demonstrate experience of leading a team
- Have a thorough knowledge of Houdini, KineFX, and Vex
- Apply creative problem‑solving skills and an appreciation of the aesthetic and technical requirements of the role
- Show a good understanding of animation and an eye for motion
- Exhibit a strong work ethic and a willingness to be involved in both development and shot execution
- Work effectively as part of a team in a challenging, changeable, deadline‑oriented environment
- Maintain excellent organisation, communication, and interpersonal skills and liaise across departments
- Familiarity with pipeline and workflow issues, especially working between multiple packages
- Adaptability and willingness to learn new processes, software, and technical skills
Desirable Skills:
- Programming/scripting experience (e.g. Python and/or C++)
- Good understanding of particle systems
- Experience developing tools, scripts, and plug‑ins to streamline workflow
- Previous experience working with motion capture data
