About the role
The Rigging Technical Director’s primary responsibility in Framestore’s Pre-Production Service division is to design, build and maintain highly versatile and efficient character rigging systems and animation interfaces.
What you’ll do:
- Design, build and refine a vast variety of rigs across a wide range of projects through the animation pipeline.
- Develop tools to optimize animation and rigging workflows and maintain the documentation accordingly.
- Work closely with Supervisors and Previs Artists to ensure the rigs meet show requests and needs while assuring full compatibility with the Film division.
- Comply with pipeline and rigging company standards, participating in the design and development of the rigging and animation toolset.
- Work across Previs, Postvis, Real-Time and Virtual Production.
Requirements:
- Maya rigging (full body/facial).
- Experience with full scripted modular or functional rigging.
- Experience with real-time engines (Unreal engine or similar).
- Python, GUI scripting and the ability to follow strict coding standards.
- The ability to write technical documentation and present your work (wiki, screen cap etc.).
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Teamwork, communication and time management skills.
- Understanding of best practices to deliver optimised performance.
- A passion for creating believable CG characters and the requisite attention to detail.
- Analytical and artistic skills, creativity and visual problem solving.
You might also have:
- Experience with body or facial motion capture systems: rig hookups, offset rigs, re-targeting etc.
- Familiarity with bug tracking software (Jira, Redmine, etc) and agile methodologies.
