About the role

This is an existing role within our team. The job involves creating realistic simulations for particles, rigid bodies, fluids, cloth, fur, and hair using tools like Houdini and Maya. We focus on applying lighting and shaders to enhance these effects, collaborating closely with Lighting Technical Directors to refine the final look. Our work requires constant coordination with other departments to ensure that every shot fits seamlessly into the broader project. We regularly discuss and strategize within our team to solve creative challenges, aiming to deliver effects that exceed expectations. This is a rewarding role which will allow you to make a big creative impact on a major upcoming episodic production.

  • Designing and creating images, elements, effects, pipelines, tools and techniques
  • Helping to design solutions involving a more procedural approach in order to create the effects required
  • Producing reviewable composites of all FX elements for a shot. Sometimes FX TDs will be expected to produce final renders too
  • An excellent knowledge of Houdini
  • Previous experience working at a Senior level
  • Previous experience producing effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam and explosions in addition to simulation techniques for rigid bodies, cloth and hair
  • A good understanding of animation and an eye for motion

Desirable Experience

  • A familiarity with pipeline issues, especially working between multiple packages
  • Knowledge of the Houdini HDK and Strong VEX, hscript, python and/or Mel scripting skills
  • Experience with other render packages and Nuke
