ABOUT THE ROLE
A BRIEF SUMMARY
Join the technology team at a cutting-edge all-IP broadcast facility in West London. Working within a small team of engineers responsible for BAU support and technical workflows within the facility.
The MCR supports a wide range of clients producing programmes for major UK and international broadcasters, including World Feed production and bespoke broadcasts. The facility is fully IP-based with remote production as a core speciality.
This role is suited to someone with broadcast or MCR operations experience. You will work within the engineering team, contributing to the day-to-day operation of the MCR and supporting live productions. You must be a strong communicator and comfortable working in a fast-paced live broadcast environment.
WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
- Assisting with the day-to-day operational support of the MCR and associated network and cloud platforms
- Acting as a point of technical contact for production teams in galleries and at outside broadcasts, escalating as required
- Carrying out pre-event checks and assisting with the configuration of broadcast encoders and decoders
- Monitoring and switching live services (lines in and lines out), flagging issues promptly
- Assisting with signal quality evaluation at both IP and HD-SDI level
- Supporting workflows relating to Ultra HD and HDR standards
- Supporting the planning and execution of broadcast workflows, with awareness of the impact and risk to on-air productions
- Checking routing and switching of feeds based on internal booking systems and automation systems to production control rooms, multi-function rooms and voice-over booths
- Escalating issues to stakeholders and communicating with vendor support as required
- Proactively supporting all operation centre workflows
- Contributing to routine maintenance and regular system checks
THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE
- An understanding of MCR workflows and broadcast technology, gained through at least 1β2 years of operational experience in a broadcast, playout, or live streaming environment
- Familiarity with IP-based broadcast environments; exposure to SMPTE 2110 standards is desirable but not essential
- Experience monitoring live services and an understanding of end-to-end broadcast or streaming signal flows
- Some exposure to video and audio contribution and distribution formats (e.g. SDI, SRT, RTP, HLS, RF)
- Basic understanding of networking fundamentals and infrastructure dashboards
- A proactive attitude with the ability to identify potential issues and escalating appropriately
- The ability to work at pace under live programme and operational pressures while remaining calm and focused
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with both technical colleagues and non-technical partners
- A willingness to work to internal business processes including ticketing, documentation and change procedures
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
