ABOUT THE ROLE

A BRIEF SUMMARY

Join the technology team at a cutting-edge all-IP broadcast facility in West London. Working within a small team of engineers responsible for BAU support and technical workflows within the facility.

The MCR supports a wide range of clients producing programmes for major UK and international broadcasters, including World Feed production and bespoke broadcasts. The facility is fully IP-based with remote production as a core speciality.

This role is suited to someone with broadcast or MCR operations experience. You will work within the engineering team, contributing to the day-to-day operation of the MCR and supporting live productions. You must be a strong communicator and comfortable working in a fast-paced live broadcast environment.

WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Assisting with the day-to-day operational support of the MCR and associated network and cloud platforms
  • Acting as a point of technical contact for production teams in galleries and at outside broadcasts, escalating as required
  • Carrying out pre-event checks and assisting with the configuration of broadcast encoders and decoders
  • Monitoring and switching live services (lines in and lines out), flagging issues promptly
  • Assisting with signal quality evaluation at both IP and HD-SDI level
  • Supporting workflows relating to Ultra HD and HDR standards
  • Supporting the planning and execution of broadcast workflows, with awareness of the impact and risk to on-air productions
  • Checking routing and switching of feeds based on internal booking systems and automation systems to production control rooms, multi-function rooms and voice-over booths
  • Escalating issues to stakeholders and communicating with vendor support as required
  • Proactively supporting all operation centre workflows
  • Contributing to routine maintenance and regular system checks

THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE

  • An understanding of MCR workflows and broadcast technology, gained through at least 1–2 years of operational experience in a broadcast, playout, or live streaming environment
  • Familiarity with IP-based broadcast environments; exposure to SMPTE 2110 standards is desirable but not essential
  • Experience monitoring live services and an understanding of end-to-end broadcast or streaming signal flows
  • Some exposure to video and audio contribution and distribution formats (e.g. SDI, SRT, RTP, HLS, RF)
  • Basic understanding of networking fundamentals and infrastructure dashboards
  • A proactive attitude with the ability to identify potential issues and escalating appropriately
  • The ability to work at pace under live programme and operational pressures while remaining calm and focused
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with both technical colleagues and non-technical partners
  • A willingness to work to internal business processes including ticketing, documentation and change procedures
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
