Responsibilities
- As Steelwork Delivery Team Lead, you hold leadership responsibility for the design replication of the HPC Nuclear Island Secondary Steelwork Design for the SZC Project, ensuring technical excellence, quality, safety and delivery performance at every stage.
- Define and communicate the strategic direction and operational objectives for the EPR‑E SZC Steelwork Design Team.
- Lead and manage all steelwork design replication activities, ensuring delivery against scope, schedule, quality and technical requirements.
- Lead, manage and develop a team of 10‑12 FTEs, creating a high performing environment focused on collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for steelwork design, ensuring solutions are aligned with overall design replication strategy, project standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain ownership of day‑to‑day management of the SZC steelwork design team, including resource planning, workload allocation and delivery oversight.
- Ensure steelwork design outputs are delivered in accordance with programme milestones, engineering standards and quality requirements.
- Work closely with the EPR‑E SZC Building Branch and wider multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment and integration with internal stakeholders.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, suppliers, contractors and internal stakeholders.
- Identify, manage and mitigate technical delivery and resource related risks associated with steelwork design activities.
- Support recruitment, capability development, succession planning and performance management within the EPR‑E SZC Steelwork Team.
- Monitor and support the health, safety and wellbeing of the EPR‑E SZC Steelwork Team.
Qualifications
- An engineering degree in Civil, Structural or a related Engineering discipline.
- Demonstrable experience of leading and managing engineering design teams within complex project environments.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to lead, motivate and develop high performing teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across multidisciplinary teams, clients, suppliers and senior leadership.
- Proven ability to manage complex engineering challenges and drive effective problem solving in a fast‑paced project environment.
- Strong planning, organisational and delivery management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to make sound technical and commercial decisions while balancing quality, cost, risk and programme requirements.
- Strong understanding of design governance, engineering assurance and quality management process.
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of project delivery within complex engineering environments.
Desirable Qualifications
- Strong technical capability in structural and steelwork design, with the ability to provide expert guidance and oversight.
- A working knowledge of the SZC SSW replication and design change process, including where there are significant gaps in scope, process and/or operational definition.
- Experience in the nuclear sector.
