We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Cranfield and provide operational engineering support to all current and future project activity within the Cranfield Lab and workshop facilities.
This will include, but not be limited to, planning, building, commissioning, maintaining, and operating all R&D test rigs and facilities to meet customer expectations using current methods and best practice.
Responsibility
- Liaising with the engineering and project management team to take design drawings and details and build measurement systems, typically for extreme pressure, flow or heat conditions.
- Detailing project plans to ensure the timely delivery of project milestones and objectives.
- Assembling and installing mechanical components, machinery, and equipment in accordance with technical drawings, P&ID, and technical specifications.
- Operating various test rigs and fixtures to perform validation and verification tests on customer assemblies.
- Performing routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on test rigs, machinery and specialized systems.
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical issues, identifying and replacing faulty parts.
- Collaborating with other team members and stakeholders to ensure efficient and right‑first‑time delivery of systems.
- Ensuring all activities are undertaken with health and safety as the driving focus.
- Maintaining accurate records of maintenance and calibration activities.

What are we looking for?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
- 5+ years experience within a manufacturing, R&D test or service environment.
Person Specification
- Proven experience as an engineer in a mechanical/I&C discipline or similar role.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
- Proven experience managing project work packages.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Physical stamina and ability to work in various conditions (e. g., confined spaces, heights).
- Familiarity with working in ISO or similar procedural environments.
- Enthusiastic and committed, willing to work within tight timescales.
