We are seeking a Cost Controller here to join our team in Sizewell B.

What will you be doing?

Within this position you will be responsible for:

  • The Cost Controller is responsible for maintaining integrated cost reporting and associated artefacts across a portfolio of projects, as well as support the development of the tools and processes used to generate this and supporting outputs.
  • This role is expected to produce outputs within the cost control sub-discipline but to also engage with other sub-disciplines to ensure outputs are integrated and aligned, and to provide support to day-to-day cost control queries.
  • This role is expected to work under supervision of a Senior Cost Controller or Head of Project Controls with a moderate level of autonomy.
  • In accordance with the project drumbeat and quality standards, as well as bespoke client requirements, undertake standard activities within the cost control sub-discipline, such as:
  • Manage the structure and content of SAP projects including creating projects and ensuring project & WBS adherence with business and project standards
  • Utilise SAP to extract data and produce cost reports across the project portfolio, including centralised reporting such as the PFR/ CCR cycle and Cost of Non Quality (CoNQ)
  • Provide interrogation, assurance and enhanced analysis of cost data on projects, providing consolidated assessments to project, programme and portfolio managers
  • Be actively involved in the development of estimates and costings for tender projects and maintain centralised supporting data such as norms and productivity rates
  • Support the implementation and production of project cost management activities and reporting including invoicing, variations, cost v budget/ price, EVM, cashflow
  • Provide day-to-day cost control support and guidance across all elements of projects and the business

What are we looking for?

Ideal experience for this position would include:

  • Cost Controllers are expected to hold the following:
  • APMG Project Planning & Controls (PPC) Foundation
  • APM Project Fundamentals Qualification
  • APM Associate Membership
  • It is desirable they hold, or aim to gain within 2 years, the following:
  • ECITB Introduction to Estimating
  • APMG Project Planning & Controls (PPC) Practitioner
  • APMG Earned Value Management Foundation

An entrant into the Cost Controller role is likely someone who has spent around 2 years in either a project controller or dedicated cost control roles working on moderately sized projects. They would not have had experience managing junior project/ cost control staff, but have demonstrated the ability to support junior staff in cost control. They must be adept users of cost control tools and principles, and have the knowledge and confidence to challenge and validate data.

An established Cost Controller will have had 1-2 years of experience in a centralised cost control role or 3-4 years of experience in larger more complex projects. They would be confident and knowledgeable in the cost control sub-discipline and will be able to lead training/ familiarisation sessions with multiple staff of various functions. They would have demonstrated an ability to create standard tools and templates that are used across multiple projects.
