EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide. In particular, EDF EPR-E UK is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for Hinkley Point C (HPC) project and preparing the design replication and engineering activities for the Sizewell C (SZC) Project. At HPC we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

The Hazards Fire, Radiological and Environment Lead is responsible for the Hazards, Fire, Environment (including Decommissioning), Radiation Protection and Radiological Consequences topics for the SZC Project.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the technical authority on your technical topics, act as the key interface between NSA Consortium Technical Teams and SZC Ltd, understanding of the SZC Ltd requirements and ensuring these are met through the annual Task Order definition.
  • Contribution to the development of each technical deliverable (KoM, IDGR, CRGR, Holistic reviews etc.), securing on time and at quality the delivery to the client as far as possible and reviewing at appropriate points before wider/Client distribution.
  • Provide technical guidance to be able to produce technical deliverables for PSZC as agreed with the client, formally review technical documents produced by the safety disciplines, and oversee/contribute to technical contributions for the SZC-DC/OP/RES tools.
  • Support the assessment and resolution of technical issues, making decisions related to the project for technical issues and provision of advice.
  • Contribute to the update of the Design Quality Plan for the Safety activities in the NI scope.
  • Support the annual Task Order definition and the update of NSA technical baseline on their scope.
  • Analyse and integrate the possible changes coming from the NCC and ensure any actions relevant to their scope are carried out to progress the OPs, DCs and RESs through the change process.
  • Ensure consistency in approach (as far as possible) across the different NSA Consortium entities between topics and technical documents.
  • Support the interactions with the Client, Regulators and technical departments at operational level as required.

Profile:

  • Degree qualified Engineer (in an appropriate scientific or engineering discipline).
  • Knowledge of Hazards/Fire Environment and/or Radiological topics in the Nuclear sector.
  • Experience in a relevant position such (preferably from a highly regulated industry).
  • The ability to take a strategic view with good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate at all levels.
  • Motivated and disciplined with an ability to work to deadlines and prioritise work across multiple workstreams.
  • Able to write and review technical documents which present complex arguments clearly.
  • Take a proactive approach to management and resolution of technical topics.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, able to liaise between multiple stakeholders and maintain a clear overview for specific topics.
  • Expected approach to be conscientious, enthusiastic about the subject with good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
