ICAEW is a UK professional regulator responsible for supporting standards, independence, and accountability within the accountancy profession.

Butler Rose has been retained by ICAEW to appoint the Chair of its Regulatory and Conduct Appointments Committee (RACAC), which plays an important role in the organisation's regulatory and disciplinary framework.

The Role

The Chair will lead RACAC and report to the ICAEW Regulation and Conduct Board.

The committee is responsible for appointing, developing, and evaluating the chairs and members of ICAEW's regulatory and disciplinary committees.

The role is suited to an experienced Board or Senior Committee Chair with strong judgement and credibility, particularly someone with expertise in governance, executive appointments, talent management, or organisational oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Governance & Committee Leadership
  • Lead the Regulatory and Conduct Appointments Committee.
  • Oversee the appointment, development, and evaluation of chairs and members of ICAEW's regulatory and disciplinary committees.
  • Ensure high standards of governance, independence, and accountability are maintained.
  • Report to the ICAEW Regulation and Conduct Board.
  • Public Interest & Regulatory Oversight
  • Contribute to safeguarding the public interest.
  • Support public confidence in the standards, independence, and integrity of the accountancy profession.
  • Contribute to the future development of professional regulation in the UK.

Qualifications

  • Significant board-level leadership experience.
  • Strong judgement and professional credibility.
  • Expertise in governance, executive appointments, talent management, or organisational oversight.
  • Experience within a regulated environment is advantageous.
  • Must be an independent lay candidate.
  • Must not be a member of the accountancy or legal professions.
  • Must not have professional or commercial associations that could compromise independence.
