About The Company
A well-established multi-site legal practice is seeking an experienced Interim Head of Finance to provide financial leadership on an open-ended interim basis.
The Role
The Interim Head of Finance will report directly to the Managing Director and manage a small team.
This is a hands‑on finance leadership role requiring someone who can quickly take ownership of financial planning, reporting, compliance, and commercial performance.
The role can be performed remotely or on a hybrid basis, with occasional travel to the Bournemouth area required.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management & Planning
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and Board reporting.
- Manage cash flow, working capital, and financial performance.
- Provide commercial insight and financial analysis to support decision‑making.
- Legal Finance & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with SRA Accounts Rules and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee payroll, VAT, PAYE, pensions, and statutory compliance.
- Monitor WIP, billing, lock‑up, debtors, and profitability.
- Team Leadership
- Supervise and support the Accounts Assistant.
- Provide hands‑on financial leadership while supporting the wider management team.
Qualifications
- Significant finance leadership experience within a UK law firm.
- Strong knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules and legal accounting.
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification, or equivalent legal finance experience.
- Proven experience producing management accounts, budgets, and forecasts.
- Strong understanding of WIP, billing, client accounts, cash flow, and lock‑up.
- Experience with legal practice management systems and advanced Excel.
- Ability to operate strategically while remaining hands‑on when required.
