In this role, you will initially undergo 9-12 months of training as an Initial Response Advisor before progressing to a Filehandler.

About Housing Disrepair Claims

Housing disrepair claims arise when tenants live in properties that have fallen into a state of disrepair due to the landlord’s failure to carry out necessary repairs. Common issues include damp and mold, structural defects, broken heating systems, leaking roofs, and infestations. Tenants have the right to live in safe and habitable conditions, and when landlords fail to meet these obligations, tenants may be entitled to compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with potential clients who are experiencing issues related to housing disrepair, demonstrating empathy and understanding as you listen to their concerns.
  • Conduct detailed assessments of potential clients' housing disrepair cases, gathering crucial information about the nature of the damage, how long it has persisted, and the impact on the tenant's health and wellbeing.
  • Review and document evidence provided by clients, such as photographs of the disrepair, records of communications with their landlord, and any reports of the impact on their health.
  • Provide clear and informed advice to potential clients regarding their legal rights, the responsibilities of their landlord, and the steps involved in making a housing disrepair claim.
  • Effectively present and explain the services and expertise of Progress Law Solicitors to potential clients, emphasising our commitment to securing the necessary repairs and compensation for the distress and inconvenience they have endured.
  • Collaborate closely with the legal team to prepare and organise the necessary documentation and evidence required to pursue the claims, ensuring all relevant details of the disrepair are thoroughly documented.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of client interactions, case assessments, and progress updates within our case management system, ensuring that all information is up to date and easily accessible.
  • Follow up with potential clients, providing regular updates on their case status, answering any questions they may have, and offering support throughout the legal process.
  • Stay informed of relevant changes in housing law and legal procedures related to disrepair claims, ensuring that you can provide accurate and current information to clients.

Requirements

  • A law degree or equivalent qualification is preferred but not essential.
  • Proven communication skills with the ability to effectively engage with potential clients over the phone.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal information in a straightforward and accessible manner.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess the merits of potential cases, especially in reviewing evidence of property damage and neglect.
  • Empathy, compassion, and the ability to connect with individuals facing challenging living conditions.
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
