We are recruiting for a temporary Independent Living Advisor to support older residents across a housing scheme in East London. This is a hands-on, varied role working directly with residents day to day, ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys working with older people and takes pride in delivering a warm, friendly service.

What the role involves

  • You'll be the key point of contact for residents, supporting them with tenancy queries, move-ins, housing benefit guidance, and promoting independence.
  • Day to day you'll carry out scheme safety checks, monitor contractor performance, maintain accurate records, and respond to low-level emergencies when they arise.
  • Some evening, weekend and mobile working will be required.

Key responsibilities

  • Building strong relationships with residents and delivering a high standard of customer service.
  • Assisting new residents to settle in and understand their tenancy rights and responsibilities.
  • Helping residents access housing benefit support and financial advice.
  • Carrying out regular site inspections and health & safety checks including communal areas and lifts.
  • Monitoring contractor quality on scheme (grounds maintenance, window cleaning, laundry etc.).
  • Completing referrals for assistive technology, aids and adaptations.
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate scheme records.
  • Responding to emergencies raised through housing colleagues.

What we're looking for

  • Essential
  • Previous experience working with older people.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt your approach to individual needs.
  • Good administrative and numeracy skills.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A relevant professional or vocational qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Desirable
  • Working knowledge of Housing Benefit.
  • Experience dealing with bereavement and loss.
  • Understanding of housing management and support services.
