The role of the SHE Advisor / Trainee Advisor is to work as part of the wider FPF team in promoting and facilitating good health and safety practices to all company workers. The role requires a robust thinker, with the ability to work both independently, as a team and with external stakeholders, to ensure that work activities are being carried out safely and compliantly. This role requires a significant site presence, with focus on general site / engineering practices, worker safety, Signing Lighting and Guarding (SLG), and the protection of the public.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out site safety inspections to ensure work activities are carried out in accordance with Company policy, procedures and relevant statutory legislation.
- Conduct regular site visits to provide operational support, to monitor progress, quality and compliance. During these visits, give the necessary guidance, briefing and training required for individuals to carry out their work safely.
- Must be confident to stop works activities at any time where compliance with health, safety or environmental legislation is in question and implement / manage corrective actions.
- Respond to site incidents, ensuring that accurate information is obtained to assist in the compilation of any forthcoming Investigation Report. Ensure that any relevant Initial Information Report is compiled and distributed within 48 hours of the incident being reported.
- Support the SHE Manager in producing high quality Investigation Reports within prescribed timescales complying with the reporting process. Assist in the implementation of any actions and/or recommendations highlighted as a result of site investigations.
- Collaborating with the SHE Manager in reviewing actions and recommendations from Investigations to ensure that they are suitable, sufficient and are providing positive improvement on work activities.
- Actively report Hazards, Near Misses and Good Practices from site works.
- Support the SHE Manager to analyse trends from Site Inspections, Hazard Reporting, Incident Reporting and CAT Downloads, with a view to developing and implementing improved ways of working.
- Provide general Health & Safety support to Site Managers, Team Leaders, other team members and support staff.
- To conduct Health, Safety and Wellbeing checks on the Company yard/stores and Office locations, supporting Occupational Health requirements, Fire Safety requirements, general Health & Hygiene requirements and assisting to identify areas of non-compliance or improvements.
- Attend, support and represent FPF regarding Health & Safety at appropriate meetings.
- Carry out New Staff / Team Inductions as required and in line with Company On-boarding procedures.
- Act as role model at all times and promote the company’s vision, priorities and values.
- Carry out any other Health and Safety related tasks as directed by the SHE Manager or FPF Senior Leadership Team.
Qualifications:
- EUSR Card (Energy & Utility Skills Scheme): A valid EUSR SHEA Gas qualification is required for working on-site.
- NEBOSH or IOSH: A NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety (or willing to work towards) or IOSH Managing Safely qualification is desirable to ensure they can effectively oversee health and safety on-site.
- Health & Safety Experience in Gas or Other Utility Industry Projects: Experience in managing or advising on Health & Safety matters within the gas or other utility providers is desirable, including exposure to reinstatement, general construction works, or excavation works on the public highway.
- Motivation to Learn and Gain Knowledge & Experience in Gas Engineering Techniques: Willing to learn and gain the required knowledge to effectively provide advice and guidance on Gas Safe Control of Operations (SCO), including SCO Permit requirements and Compliance.
- NRSWA Qualification: Hold as a minimum O1 Signing, Lighting and Guarding, or be willing to work towards gaining this qualification.
- Fire Safety & First Aid at Work Qualification: A qualification in both Fire Safety and First Aid is desirable, but not essential.
- Mental Health First Aid Qualification: A qualification in Mental Health First Aid is desirable, but not essential.
