We are offering an exciting opportunity for someone with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills to join a team of ecologists and provide support and resource within our Lockington office in Derbyshire. The role is diverse and covers largely office administrative tasks including the scheduling of ecology surveys to be undertaken by one of our busy ecology teams across the Midlands and further afield throughout the UK. This will require strong logistical skills, some geographical knowledge and the ability to problem solve, often at short notice.

Our ecologists undertake a variety of protected species surveys including breeding and wintering birds, bat activity surveys, roost emergence surveys, internal/external inspections of buildings, and surveys for dormice, reptiles, great crested newt, water vole and badgers to name a few. Each survey type has seasonal, weather, personnel, site access, and geographic restrictions that determine who can undertake the survey and when. The schedule is fundamental for the smooth running of the team and their workload, which can be challenging during the peak survey season and during changeable weather conditions.

The successful candidate will also have responsibility for assisting with:

  • arranging site access for surveying team
  • liaising with sub-contractors undertaking surveys for the team
  • health and safety procedures
  • fee proposal documentation
  • maintenance and monitoring of survey equipment
  • data upload and analysis

We are looking for someone with a bright and positive personality and can-do attitude, with outstanding organisational capability and personable people skills.

Summary of the role:

  • Ecology staff survey scheduling and co-ordination
  • Maintenance and monitoring of work equipment
  • Health and safety documentation
  • Responsibility for updating relevant documents
  • Conduit between Lead Project Ecologists and Surveyors

Essential skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in an administrative role
  • Good phone manner
  • Good IT and data handling skills
  • Bright, positive and pro-active personality
  • Can-do attitude and ability to be reactive and prioritise effectively within a changing workload
  • Previous experience of running a schedule/event planner/organiser type role
  • Experience or interest in Ecology

FPCR offer flexible working, and this role can be either full or part time (28‑35 hour working week), taking into consideration the abilities of the candidate to fulfil the various aspects of the role. Salary will be £25,000 FTE per annum. Due to the interface required with surveyors on a daily basis, and the organisation of equipment required there is no homeworking option available for this role.

Our team members can develop their career in a supportive environment and access a wide range of benefits, including flexible working, compressed working week, pension contributions, a health cash plan and bike to work scheme. We are an Employee Owned Trust, providing additional benefits to our staff, allowing us to pay a discretionary annual tax‑free bonus.

Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.

At FPCR, we are an award‑winning, multi‑disciplinary environment and design practice, delivering projects across the UK from our six offices. Our expertise spans Landscape, Urban Design, Masterplanning, Architecture, Ecology, and Arboriculture, allowing us to offer a holistic approach to every project. Our commitment to the environment is at the heart of everything we do.
