Senior Residential Support Worker (Agency)
We are seeking a caring, dependable and resilient Senior Residential Support Worker to join our team. You will primarily work within our children’s residential homes in North (N8, N7) and Northwest London (NW1).
You will support the management team in leading shifts and maintaining a safe, nurturing and structured environment where young people feel supported, valued and empowered to achieve positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Lead shifts and coordinate the day-to-day running of the home.
Deliver consistent, person-centred care tailored to each young person’s needs.
Provide guidance and support to Residential Support Workers.
Build trusting and professional relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Support young people with routines, education, appointments, activities and community engagement.
Promote independence, confidence, emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour.
Ensure care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures are followed.
Administer medication safely in accordance with individual care plans, MAR charts and organisational procedures.
Maintain accurate medication records and promptly report any errors, concerns or changes.
Respond calmly and appropriately to incidents, challenging behaviour and safeguarding concerns.
Complete and review daily records, incident reports and other documentation.
Conduct effective handovers and communicate important information to colleagues and managers.
Work collaboratively with families, social workers and other professionals.
Support staff development through mentoring, role modelling and constructive feedback.
Assist with household duties and maintain a safe, welcoming and homely environment.
Support audits, inspections and compliance with organisational policies and regulatory standards.
About You
You will be an experienced, compassionate and confident care professional with the ability to lead by example. You should be organised, dependable and able to make appropriate decisions while remaining calm under pressure.
You must be committed to safeguarding young people, promoting positive outcomes and maintaining high standards of care.
Previous experience in residential childcare or a similar social-care setting.
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or an equivalent relevant qualification.
Experience of leading shifts, mentoring colleagues or taking on additional responsibilities.
Experience and competence in the safe administration, recording and management of medication.
A valid UK driving licence.
An overseas police or criminal-record check, where applicable.
Willingness to complete all required safer-recruitment checks and mandatory training.
Previous experience in a senior residential childcare position.
Strong knowledge of safeguarding, risk management and professional record-keeping.
Experience supporting young people with emotional, behavioural or complex needs.
An enhanced DBS certificate registered with the Update Service. If you do not already have one, an application may be arranged.
