The Role
We're looking for an experienced Workshop Manager - Heavy Plant to take ownership of our client's workshop operation. You'll be responsible for keeping their fleet of construction plant and machinery in peak condition – managing maintenance schedules, diagnosing faults, leading repairs to OEM specification, and making sure the workshop runs safely and efficiently day to day. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you'll work closely with site teams to minimise downtime and support smooth project delivery.
What You'll Be Doing
- Overseeing day‑to‑day workshop operations, ensuring all plant and equipment is maintained, serviced and ready for site.
- Diagnosing and resolving mechanical and electrical faults across a range of heavy plant including excavators, dumpers, rollers and associated machinery.
- Carrying out and overseeing all repairs and servicing to OEM specification.
- Planning and scheduling preventative maintenance programmes.
- Leading and supervising workshop staff, setting a high standard for safety and quality.
- Managing parts inventory, maintenance records and compliance documentation.
- Collaborating with project and operations teams to prioritise workload and minimise equipment downtime.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a Heavy Plant Fitter or Workshop Manager within construction, plant hire or a related industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of heavy construction plant and earthmoving equipment.
- OEM experience or manufacturer training (Caterpillar, Komatsu, Volvo, JCB or similar) is highly desirable.
- Excellent fault‑finding and problem‑solving ability.
- Natural leader with clear communication skills and the ability to get the best from a team.
- Organised and thorough when it comes to record‑keeping and compliance.
