Do you enjoy the operational side of HR, where you're the one keeping things moving day to day? And would you like to do it somewhere the work genuinely matters? This role sits within a small HR team, reporting to the HR Manager, and it's a real mix of hands-on recruitment work and broader generalist support.
The Role
You'll be the person the organisation comes to for practical, day-to-day HR help. Recruitment and onboarding sit firmly with you, alongside a wider generalist remit supporting the HR Manager.
Recruitment and onboarding
This is a big part of the job, and you'll own it end to end.
- Manage recruitment campaigns from advert through to offer, working with managers on requirements and shortlisting
- Coordinate interviews, assessments and feedback
- Prepare offers, contracts and starter paperwork
- Run the full suite of pre-employment compliance checks, including DBS, occupational health, right to work, references and qualification certificates
- Plan and deliver a structured two-day corporate induction so new starters land properly and settle quickly
- Track recruitment activity and keep managers updated on where things stand
Day-to-day HR support
You'll be the first point of contact for a lot of the everyday queries.
- Advise managers and employees on policy, process and terms and conditions
- Support employee relations casework, including note-taking, case preparation and lower-level matters in your own right
- Manage the full employee lifecycle administration, from changes and family leave through to leavers
- Escalate the more complex issues to the HR Manager, with the groundwork already done
- Support monthly payroll processing from an HR perspective, working with the finance team and external payroll bureau
- Travel to services from time to time to deal with people matters on the ground
Systems, records and reporting
- Administer the HR and recruitment systems, including back-end configuration and monthly audits
- Keep employee records accurate, compliant and inspection-ready at all times
- Produce regular reporting on recruitment, turnover, absence and other people data
- Prepare and submit data returns to external and regulatory bodies to agreed deadlines
- Spot where processes could work better and suggest practical improvements
- Support wider HR projects as they come up
- Help promote the staff benefits package and the organisation's wellbeing offer, including mental health first aid and counselling support
You'll Flourish if You Have
- Solid generalist HR experience in a busy, people-heavy environment
- Genuine recruitment and onboarding experience, ideally end to end and including compliance-heavy vetting
- CIPD Level 3 or 5, or equivalent experience
- Confidence advising managers and holding your ground when you need to
- Strong organisation, and the ability to juggle several things at once
- Strong IT skills, and ideally some experience of the admin side of HR or recruitment systems
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- A practical, solutions-focused approach and a willingness to muck in
Experience in a regulated environment such as health, social care or education would be useful, but it isn't essential.
