Hours are rotating shifts of 06.00-18.00 pm and 18.00-06.00 am following a 2 on 3 off and 3 off 2 off shift pattern.

Outline of Role

Responsible for ensuring that blow moulding machines receive the correct materials, in the correct quantities at all times. This job also carries responsibilities for ensuring that documentation and records are adequately maintained.

Areas of Responsibility

Reporting to the shift leader, the principal task of this role is to make sure that all the blow moulding machines use the specified materials at all times. Continuity of supply is key. To perform this role adequately, the materials handler is expected to routinely maintain all relevant equipment and correct problems in order that offline time due to materials failure is minimised. Responsibilities also include maintaining tidy work areas and tending to regranulation systems.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure correct and appropriate raw and reprocessed materials specified for use by the shift leader are delivered to the machines and associated equipment in the specified quantities.
  • Ensure that all materials storage vessels and transportation systems are correctly labelled at all times.
  • Ensure all materials are maintained free of contaminants.
  • Notify the shift leader of any problems or issues associated with or likely to result from materials or materials transport systems.
  • Maintain adequate hygiene and housekeeping standards in all areas operated in at all times.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records relating to raw material issued / consumed / collected.
  • Help maintain target materials efficiencies by notifying the shift leader of any irregular materials consumption.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of all materials storage and transportation systems to ensure continuity of supply.
  • Perform any other reasonable task as requested by the shift leader.

Every job that runs will require specific materials to be delivered to a machine and/or blending equipment. The requirements will change according to circumstances at the time. The shift leader will specify which materials and in what quantities. The materials handler is responsible for making the necessary arrangements to meet the requests. Note that ‘correct and appropriate’ is specified. All materials are included. Materials handling generates a lot of dust and is prone to blockage. Regular inspection and attention to the materials and scrap recovery systems are both essential and part of the materials handler’s daily duties. It is expected that the materials handler will use his or her own initiative to inspect and correct shortcomings as well as perform any specified inspection routines as instructed by the shift leader. The day to day shift requirements always vary. Occasionally, the materials handler may be asked to clean or pack in order that the company can fulfil its needs. It is expected that materials handlers will perform such duties and similar whenever requested by the shift leader.
