Our Washington site are now recruiting for a Transport Operator to join their friendly team on a full time permanent basis. As the Transport Operator you will be responsible for effectively managing vehicle utilization and ensuring drivers are given clear and precise instructions. Ensuring that all service levels are met cost effectively and within the constraints of drivers hours and H&S regulations.

Salary: £30,316- £33,927 per annum.

Working Hours: 4 on 4 off, 6pm-6am.

Key Duties of a Transport Operator:

  • Ensuring that all elements of the job are effectively communicated to drivers and sub-contractors.
  • Plan the effective utilisation of drivers, vehicles, sub-contractors and agencies ensuring that all Company sites are fully considered at all times.
  • Ensure that all drivers are working within a safe environment and follow driver hours regulations.
  • Liaising with planning team to optimise fleet/driver utilisation, identifying and resolving problems affecting delivery on time.
  • To assist in the control of equipment, ensuring that customer requirements are met and recorded.
  • Working with Compliance to ensure trucks are legal and information is downloaded in a timely manner.
  • Conducting initial investigations into accidents or issues of driver performance and raising with Transport Supervisors and HR to ensure they are dealt with efficiently and consistently.
  • Assist Supervisors in speaking to drivers about Virtual Risk Manager and improving driving style to improve FW MPG and overall safety and to ensure that costs are managed in accordance with the KPIs.
  • Undertake additional tasks/duties as may be required by Management from time to time.

Qualifications:

  • Experience of working within a distribution / transport environment.
  • Experience of managing own workload within a pressurised environment.
  • Sound geographical knowledge.
  • Basic understanding of drivers hours regulations/Tachograph law.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Initiative and the ability to work unsupervised.
