We live by a simple set of values: to delight our customers, maximise our efficiency, be socially responsible and promote being an employer of choice.

We are looking for an experienced Yard Shunter to join our Washington depot, supporting a busy chilled logistics operation. This is a dedicated yard-based role, ideal for someone who has previous shunting experience and is looking for a stable, consistent shunting position rather than a driving role on the road.

Shift pattern: Friday to Monday from 18:00 - 06:00

What you'll be doing:

  • Moving trailers safely on and off loading bays throughout the shift.
  • Supporting yard safety by monitoring, patrolling and maintaining safe yard movements.
  • Operating a dedicated yard-based shunting vehicle.
  • Helping ensure trailers are positioned correctly and loaded on time.
  • Working closely with the transport and warehouse teams to keep the operation running smoothly.
  • Liaising with other departments to support smooth loading and unloading.
  • Maintaining high standards of health, safety, hygiene and housekeeping.

What we're looking for:

  • Previous yard shunting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Someone who wants a dedicated shunting role and understands the pace, safety standards and responsibility of working in a busy yard environment.
  • Current or previous Class 1 licence experience is preferred, although the role is yard-based and does not involve public road driving as part of the core duties.
  • A safety-first approach and confidence moving trailers in a live operational environment.
  • Reliability, good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a wider transport team.

In return, we offer:

  • Fully funded CPC training that takes place on a paid working day.
  • Fowler Welch Collision Free Year awards and associated yearly prize draws.
  • Coveted Driver of the Year accolade highlighting our very best drivers and rewarding them with prizes including £500 of vouchers.
  • Free Fowler Welch Healthcare Cash Plan.
  • Free Life Insurance as a Fowler Welch employee equal to three times your basic salary.
  • Competitive Pension Scheme.
  • Recognition schemes for our exceptional employees; monthly winners receive £100 of shopping vouchers.
