We're working on a newly created Technical Pre-Sales Consultant role with a specialist technology business supplying advanced hardware and software platforms into the UK's research, engineering, education, and entertainment sectors. The kind of kit that ends up in university labs, research institutes, and production environments where precision and performance genuinely matter.
The business is a specialist technology partner bringing some of the world's most advanced hardware and software platforms into the UK market. The team is around ten people, technically deep, and operates at the point where complex hardware meets serious science and creative output. Clients include top-tier universities, public research bodies, and engineering organisations across aerospace, automotive, and adjacent sectors.
Most of the client base is established. The commercial operation is now scaling, and this Technical Pre-Sales Consultant position reports directly to the Managing Director.
The role involves being the technical and commercial lead across a portfolio of established clients, with scope to develop new relationships where the fit is right. The work is consultative: understanding research workflows, advising on the right technical solution, scoping and pricing alongside the technical team, and supporting clients through often complex procurement processes.
Day to day, you will:
- Manage and grow established client relationships across higher education, research, and engineering
- Lead technical conversations, demos, and solution design sessions
- Translate complex hardware into clear, outcome-focused value
- Work with the technical team to scope, configure, and cost solutions
- Support proposals, tender responses, and pricing documentation
- Represent the business at trade shows and industry events
- Feed market insight back into commercial strategy
Why this one is different: A direct line to the MD and genuine influence over how the commercial function develops. You'll be a trusted advisor to clients who actually want technical input, not a quota-chasing rep running a numbers game. The technology is genuinely interesting. The clients are sophisticated. The conversations are technically rich and varied enough to keep the work fresh.
You’ll be a fit for this Technical Pre-Sales Consultant role if you:
- Have a track record in B2B technical sales or pre-sales, comfortable with deal sizes north of £10,000
- Can hold your own with technical buyers, whether that's a professor, a lab manager, or a senior engineer
- Understand institutional and public sector procurement, or can pick it up quickly
- Write proposals that close and run meetings that move things forward
- Operate well with autonomy in a small, fast-moving team
- Background in advanced visualisation, 3D capture technologies, or sales into higher education and research will put you at the front of the queue.
What's on offer:
- £40,000 to £55,000 basic, dependent on experience
- Performance bonus with meaningful upside
- 22 days plus bank holidays plus Christmas shutdown, rising to 28 with service
- Flexible working hours
- Office-based in London
- Genuine career progression as the business scales
