The Opportunity:
As Technical Product Lead, you will be responsible for developing technically robust and commercially attractive Solar PV and BESS solutions for industrial and commercial clients. Working closely with business development, finance and delivery teams, you'll bridge the gap between engineering and commercial decision-making, ensuring solutions are technically sound, financially viable and highly competitive within the market. This is a highly visible position where you'll have genuine influence over product development, supplier selection, technical standards and the future growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities of the Technical Product Lead:
- Lead the design and optimisation of commercial Solar PV and BESS solutions, ensuring high performance, efficiency and strong commercial returns.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and maintain awareness of market trends to keep offerings competitive.
- Support product strategy by assessing new technologies, suppliers and equipment entering the market.
- Build and manage key supplier, OEM and subcontractor relationships, supporting negotiations, specifications and warranties.
- Contribute to the development of a scalable, cost-effective supply chain to support business growth.
- Work closely with sales and business development teams to develop competitive tenders and proposals.
- Deliver system sizing, yield analysis and technical feasibility assessments, ensuring robust commercial assumptions.
- Act as the technical SME in customer meetings, translating complex engineering into clear commercial value.
- Support the sales process by building technical credibility and overcoming customer objections.
- Ensure smooth handover from sales/tendering into delivery, providing ongoing technical support where required.
- Maintain strong stakeholder relationships and uphold high standards of quality, performance and customer satisfaction.
Criteria for the Technical Product Lead:
- Proven experience in commercial Solar PV and/or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Background in renewable energy engineering, technical sales engineering, or pre-construction/tendering environments.
- Strong understanding of system design, grid connections and energy storage technologies.
- Ability to assess the commercial impact of technical and design decisions.
- Experience using industry-standard tools such as PVSyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD or similar.
- Knowledge of OEMs, equipment performance characteristics and warranty frameworks.
- Commercially minded with a solutions-focused approach.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
