Fourblue are working with a leading tier 1 contractor who are supporting the delivery of major highways and transport projects across the UK. They’re now looking for a Principal Environmental Consultant to take a technical leadership role within their growing environmental function. This is a senior opportunity where you’ll shape environmental strategy, lead on EIA delivery, and influence how large-scale infrastructure projects are designed and delivered with a strong focus on sustainability, carbon reduction, and biodiversity.
You’ll be working closely with engineers, project managers, regulators, and clients to manage risk and drive environmentally responsible delivery.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) across major infrastructure projects
- Providing technical leadership on environmental assessment, compliance, and best practice
- Managing environmental inputs across design and delivery stages
- Working with stakeholders including regulators, clients, and internal teams
- Driving sustainability initiatives including carbon reduction and biodiversity net gain
- Supporting nature-based solutions and climate resilience strategies
- Managing resources, budgets, and project delivery performance
- Mentoring and developing junior members of the environmental team
What we’re looking for:
- Strong background in environmental consultancy within infrastructure, highways, or construction
- Proven experience delivering EIAs on complex projects
- Deep understanding of planning policy, environmental legislation, and assessment methods
- Chartered Environmentalist (or working towards)
- Strong report writing, technical review, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience leading or mentoring teams in a consultancy environment
- Confident managing multiple projects, priorities, and client relationships
