Forublue are supporting a leading utilities infrastructure business who are looking to appoint an experienced 33kV Electrical Design Engineer to take ownership of high voltage design and delivery across major UK energy projects. This is a key technical role where you will be involved from early design stages through to construction and commissioning, working across renewable energy, utilities and high demand infrastructure projects such as data centres and battery storage systems. You will also play an important role in mentoring and supporting the wider engineering team as the business continues to grow.
Responsibilities of the Electrical Design Engineer:
- Leading the design of 33kV electrical networks across solar, wind, BESS and data centre projects
- Producing and reviewing single line diagrams, cable sizing, protection coordination and earthing designs
- Managing grid connection applications and liaising with DNOs, IDNOs, consultants and contractors
- Ensuring all designs comply with G99, G100, ENA standards, BS7671 and relevant IEC requirements
- Supporting HV equipment specification, procurement and FAT/SAT testing activities
- Taking designs through to construction delivery and final commissioning stages
- Managing project programmes, budgets, risk registers and technical documentation
- Conducting site visits and attending progress and coordination meetings
- Ensuring health, safety and environmental compliance across all project stages
- Acting as a key technical interface between clients, regulators and internal teams
Criteria of the Electrical Design Engineer:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in 33kV HV design or electrical project engineering
- Strong background in utility scale renewable energy or high demand infrastructure projects
- Good understanding of UK DNO and IDNO grid connection processes
- Experience working with AutoCAD and electrical design tools
- Strong knowledge of CDM regulations and site based HSE requirements
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects across design and construction phases
- High attention to detail with a proactive and solution focused mindset
- Willingness to travel to site as required
