I am currently working with a leading provider of private network solutions, delivering high-voltage connections and maintenance services across electricity, gas, telecoms, water, and EV charging infrastructure. The business has a strong reputation in the utilities industry and a track record of national growth, providing innovative, safe, and compliant solutions to clients across the UK. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated engineer to join their Private Networks team and take ownership of electrical design across LV, 11kV, and eventually EHV networks. You will be supported and mentored by experienced engineers, gaining hands-on exposure to real-world projects and accelerating your technical knowledge and career progression.

Responsibilities of the Design Engineer:

  • Delivering high-quality, compliant, and cost-effective designs for private networks under the guidance of Senior Design Engineers
  • Producing general arrangements, layouts, single-line diagrams, technical reports, and submittals
  • Preparing design calculations, value engineering input, and supporting day-to-day technical challenges
  • Producing accurate “as-built” drawings and maintaining design registers in line with company standards
  • Preparing construction and tender documentation and supporting Project Managers with design queries
  • Liaising with external stakeholders and clients to clarify technical requirements
  • Escalating design challenges promptly to ensure projects remain on track
  • Participating in design audits, reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensuring all design work supports industry standards, internal procedures, and project financials

Criteria of the Design Engineer:

  • HND or degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience in LV and 11kV network design, with a desire to develop EHV knowledge
  • Understanding of practical electrical installations and construction considerations
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with clients, project managers, and site teams
  • Safety awareness and willingness to obtain EUSR/CSCS/ECS and First Aid at Work certification if required
