This is an opportunity for someone with deep technical expertise and strong leadership skills to manage a team of designers, oversee the delivery of complex 11kV to 132kV projects, and play a key strategic role in driving the business forward.

Responsibilities of the Head of Technical:

  • Leading the design and technical function of the business, overseeing the full lifecycle of electrical infrastructure projects from concept to energisation.
  • Taking full responsibility for design assurance and sign-off, ensuring all work meets DNO/IDNO and regulatory requirements.
  • Acting as the senior technical authority across all projects, supporting both internal and external stakeholders with expert guidance and design leadership.
  • Working closely with project managers, commercial teams, and clients to ensure design outputs align with delivery timelines, budgets, and operational needs.
  • Overseeing the preparation and submission of designs for contestable and non-contestable works, including cable routing, substation layouts, switchgear, protection schemes, and earthing.
  • Building strong working relationships with DNOs and IDNOs to streamline approvals and technical collaboration.
  • Supporting the tendering process by reviewing specifications, contributing to technical submissions, and advising on feasibility and risk.
  • Driving the development and implementation of best practices, design standards, and internal processes to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Staying up to date with industry regulations, innovation, and technology that can improve project outcomes or reduce delivery risk.

Criteria of the Head of Technical:

  • A strong background in electrical infrastructure design, ideally from an ICP, DNO or IDNO.
  • Commercial awareness and a passion for helping the business grow through technical excellence.
  • Confident, collaborative, and quality-driven.
