We’re looking for a sharp, creative problem solver to join our creative technology team at one of the UK’s best independent agencies. Working alongside the production team in our Sheffield office, the ideal candidate will have experience in building CMS based websites in PHP frameworks, for example WordPress and Drupal. With a few years of development under your belt, you’ll have a mastery of modern CSS and JavaScript and a solid understanding of PHP, underpinning these frameworks as well as understanding how to extend them through custom themes and plugins/modules. You’ll also benefit from experience with React or a comparable modern JavaScript framework, and familiarity with component-based architectures, as a portion of the role involves developing dynamic user interfaces for interactive experiences.

What You’ll Do

  • Work with designers and producers to turn requirements and concepts into efficient sites, web applications and systems using industry standard technologies.
  • Ensure all projects meet our own standards and those of our clients, best practice and usability and accessibility standards.
  • Turn your best work into modular and maintainable components to maximise reusability.
  • Work with senior developers and our lead developer to define the architecture for your projects.
  • Collaborate with the designers in the team to develop the best user experience for our customers.
  • Keep up to date and contribute to current trends, thinking and best practice ensure our projects follow these.
  • Get involved with new business proposals and pitches with technical insight, fresh ideas and smart thinking.
  • Contribute to overall strategy and standards for the agency.

You’ll thrive here if you have

  • At least two years development experience.
  • Confidence working with PHP and CMS – like WordPress and Drupal creating custom themes, working with multiple content types and taxonomies.
  • Using modular content extensions like ACF and Paragraphs.
  • Good experience in templating languages like Twig, Blade or Mustache.
  • Theming CMS front ends using modern CSS, SASS and ES6+ JavaScript.

Knowledge of / a keen interest to learn:

  • Headless CMS development using NextJS, React, TypeScript, GraphQL stacks.
  • AWS Elastic Beanstalk/BitBucket deployment pipelines.
  • Third party integrations, for instance Google Tag Manager, Mailchimp, Hubspot etc.

A track record of delivering high quality web projects

  • Demonstrable interest in contributing to a project’s wider concept, design and strategy.
  • Ability to evidence understanding of client aims, commercial or otherwise, and to then articulate and produce work that supports these.
  • Ability to document your work.
  • Hands-on experience implementing responsive, usable, accessible designs and strategies.
