I am working with a fast growing, owner led corporate services business that needs a proper Finance Manager. Not a passenger. Not someone hiding behind process. Someone who wants real ownership of the numbers and a clear route to Financial Controller over time.
This is a hands on SME role in a business that is scaling. The finance function is integrated with the rest of the business, not sat in a silo. You will be expected to know the detail, but also explain the story behind the numbers to non finance stakeholders.
The previous hire did not work out because they lacked ownership and drive. That context matters. This role needs someone switched on, accountable, and comfortable operating in a demanding but fair environment.
The role
You will report into the Head of Finance and take full responsibility for day to day finance operations and month end delivery. You will also oversee an Accounts Assistant and be the go to person for accurate, reliable numbers. This is not a reporting only role. You will be close to cash, controls, audit, and operational teams across the business.
What you will be doing
- Owning the monthly management accounts process end to end
- Full responsibility for the balance sheet with clean reconciliations
- Oversight of AP, AR, payroll, expenses, and spend control
- Managing and developing an Accounts Assistant
- Cash flow reporting and rolling cash forecasts
- Supporting budgeting and reforecasting with practical insight, not theory
- Working with outsourced accountants on statutory accounts and audit
- Supporting tax compliance including VAT, corporation tax, and payroll taxes
- Improving processes and systems as the business scales
- Acting as a finance partner to operational stakeholders, not just finance
What they are looking for
- ACA or ACCA qualified
- Strong management accounts background in an SME, scale up, or fast paced environment
- Solid technical fundamentals across UK GAAP and balance sheet control
- Audit exposure and experience working with outsourced statutory accounts
- Comfortable being hands on and close to the detail
- Confident dealing with non finance stakeholders
- Resilient, accountable, and willing to step up
- Ideally from tech, fintech, eCommerce, or professional services
What this is not
- There is no bonus structure
- This is not a fully remote role
- This is not a place to coast or hide
What you get
- Clear progression towards a Financial Controller role
- Annual cost of living salary review
- Office perks including free lunches, good coffee, and a dog friendly environment
- A founder led business that values reliability and commitment but understands real life
- Shorter notice periods are preferred.
If you are a technically sound Finance Manager who wants ownership, progression, and visibility, this is worth a conversation.
