Overview of Role
We are recruiting for a skilled hands-on engineer to join a specialist manufacturing environment supporting the build and development of high-precision products. This role sits between development and production, working on prototype builds, small batch assemblies and continuous improvement projects. This is not a repetitive production role. The work is varied, technical and suited to someone who enjoys problem-solving and working on complex builds. We are open to candidates from backgrounds including toolmaking, instrument making, fitting or precision assembly.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble complex mechanical and electro-mechanical components in line with engineering drawings
- Carry out precision tasks including fitting, bonding, wiring, routing and component modification
- Support prototype builds and development work alongside engineers
- Interpret engineering drawings, models and technical documentation
- Conduct basic testing (mechanical and electrical checks) and inspections
- Identify build issues and contribute to design and process improvements
- Maintain accurate build records, test results and documentation
Requirements
- Background in toolmaking, instrument making, fitting or precision engineering
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Hands-on experience with assembly, fitting or component modification
- High attention to detail and quality
- Comfortable working in a low-volume or prototype environment
- Problem-solving mindset and proactive approach
Desirable
- Experience with soldering, brazing, bonding or wiring
- Exposure to prototype or R&D environments
- Experience with mechanical or electrical testing and measurement
- Knowledge of quality standards (e.g. ISO environments)
