Lincolnshire | £40,000 | Permanent | Days with flexibility

Are you a scientifically minded Process Technologist who enjoys understanding why manufacturing processes work, why they sometimes don't, and how to make them better?

We're working with an established and ambitious food and manufacturing business to recruit a Process Technologist for an exciting opportunity combining process science, industrialisation, manufacturing optimisation and technical problem-solving.

This isn't a traditional Process Technologist position focused exclusively on product launches or factory trials.

It's a role for someone who wants to get beneath the surface of manufacturing, understand the science behind complex formulations and processes, and develop practical, evidence-based solutions that deliver measurable improvements.

The business is investing in its people, manufacturing capabilities and operational processes, creating an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical foundations and the ambition to develop their expertise further.

The Role

Working closely with Production, Product Development, Technical and Engineering teams, you'll play an important role in improving existing manufacturing processes and supporting the successful industrialisation and implementation of new products.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Process Industrialisation & Scale-Up: Supporting the transition of products from development and trial stages into consistent, repeatable and commercially viable manufacturing.
  • Scientific Problem-Solving: Investigating complex manufacturing challenges involving formulation behaviour, powder flow, binding, compression, process stability and equipment capability.
  • Process Optimisation: Identifying technical limitations and opportunities to improve yield, throughput, consistency, waste and overall manufacturing performance.
  • New Product Implementation: Supporting new product introduction (NPI), manufacturing trials, process validation activities and the implementation of new or improved production methods.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Applying structured problem-solving techniques and scientific data to investigate recurring manufacturing issues and recommend sustainable solutions.
  • Technical Reporting: Analysing manufacturing data, evaluating findings and preparing clear, evidence-based recommendations for operational and technical stakeholders.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working closely with experienced production teams to understand operational challenges, challenge existing methods and support the implementation of improvements.

This is a predominantly factory-based position, offering the opportunity to combine hands-on manufacturing activity with scientific investigation, analysis and technical project work.

About You

We're keen to speak with candidates who have experience in process technology, process engineering, manufacturing science, industrialisation, technical development or process improvement.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • A strong scientific or technical foundation, ideally gained within food, pharmaceutical or another process-driven manufacturing environment.
  • An understanding of the relationship between product formulation, raw material characteristics, manufacturing equipment and finished product performance.
  • Experience investigating technical manufacturing problems and applying structured root-cause analysis.
  • Exposure to process scale-up, industrialisation, production trials or new product implementation.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and explain technical findings clearly.
  • Confidence working directly with manufacturing teams and influencing improvements on the factory floor.
  • A curious, practical and resilient approach, with a genuine interest in understanding complex manufacturing processes.

Importantly, you don't need to be the finished article.

The business is looking for someone with the right scientific understanding, practical manufacturing experience and intellectual curiosity to develop into a highly capable industrialisation specialist.

What's on Offer?

  • Permanent, full-time position based in Lincolnshire
  • Predominantly daytime working, with flexibility around production trials and launches
  • Structured training and development from experienced manufacturing leadership
  • Exposure to technically challenging products and complex manufacturing processes
  • The opportunity to take ownership of meaningful technical improvements
  • Potential long-term progression into Industrialisation or Continuous Improvement Management
