Foster + Partners’ Urban Design Group works across scales – from regional studies to masterplans and regeneration – integrating urban planning, economics, design, and social sciences to create people-focused environments with positive impact. We are seeking an Urban Economist to bring economic expertise into our multidisciplinary team. The role involves economic and spatial research, real estate and land-use analysis, and the development of strategic economic briefs to inform planning and design. You will help shape project narratives, integrate economic thinking into design processes, and support bids and competitions through market insights and positioning strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and analyse city economies, demographics, real estate markets, and policy
- Develop economic narratives, strategic rationales, and briefs for projects from site to masterplan scale
- Contribute to tools, methodologies, and R&D initiatives
- Support business development with market and strategic analysis
Skills & Experience
- Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in Excel (modelling/analysis)
- Knowledge of economic, spatial, and real estate analysis; GIS a plus
- Excellent organisational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Proactive, detail-oriented, collaborative approach
- Background in urban economics, economic development, real estate, or related fields
