Technical Architect â London
Join a global design leader and help deliver the technical excellence behind some of the world\âs most ambitious projects.
Foster + Partners is one of the world\âs most pioneering architecture and design practices â a global studio recognised for innovation, technical rigour and projects that redefine cities across the globe. Within this environment, our Technical Architects play a crucial role: not driving the conceptual design, but shaping the technical quality, coordination and delivery that brings these designs to life.
We are now looking for a Technical Architect to join our London team. This is a specialist role, distinct from a traditional design architect pathway. Instead of leading concept generation or aesthetic development, you will focus on the technical integrity of our projects â developing complex details, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs, resolving design challenges, and ensuring that our built work meets the highest standards of performance, constructability and compliance.
Why this role? This is a unique opportunity to step into the engine room of a worldâclass design practice. As a Technical Architect, you will work closely with project leaders, engineers and consultants to translate design intent into wellâresolved, technically robust architecture.
You won\ât sit in a purely creative role â you\âll be at the intersection of design and delivery, transforming ideas into coordinated information that contractors can build from. From detailed drawing packages and technical modelling to problemâsolving during project development, you will help ensure our architecture performs as beautifully as it looks.
If you are passionate about technical excellence, coordination, building systems, construction methodology and making complex projects work â this is a role where you will thrive.
What you\âll be doing
Developing and coordinating technical drawings, models, specifications and documentation
Supporting multidisciplinary teams through detailed design and project development phases
Taking responsibility for technically complex portions of projects
Liaising with external consultants, engineers, specialists and supply chain partners
Supporting internal coordination to ensure consistent information flow across the project
Helping resolve design challenges with technical insight and practical thinking
Preparing materials, documents and models required for technical presentations and reviews
Ensuring compliance with Foster + Partners\â technical standards, procedures and quality expectations
Recording CPD and maintaining your professional development plan in line with RIBA or equivalent requirements
What you\âll bring
Strong technical understanding of building design, construction sequencing and coordination
Ability to interpret design intent and translate it into clear, buildable information
Skill across a range of media for producing technical and design documentation
Excellent organisational skills, with an ability to work to deadlines under pressure
Proactive, detailâfocused mindset with a passion for problemâsolving
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
Ability to manage sensitive information and operate with professionalism
Flexibility, curiosity and a commitment to lifelong technical learning
Desirable: Experience supporting junior team members, understanding of project financials, and proficiency in MicroStation, Adobe Suite and other design tools.
What\âs in it for you?As a Technical Architect at Foster + Partners, you\âll be working at the heart of an internationally renowned practice, contributing to projects that influence skylines and communities worldwide. You\âll deepen your technical expertise, collaborate with some of the industry\âs most respected designers and engineers, and play a vital role in ensuring our architecture is delivered at the highest standard.
This is your opportunity to shape the technical backbone of worldâclass design â and be part of something extraordinary.
