As a Sustainability Specialist – Embodied Carbon & Circular Economy at Foster + Partners, you will help drive low carbon, circular and regenerative design strategies across global masterplans, buildings and infrastructure projects. You’ll work within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team applying whole life thinking, advanced analytical tools and emerging policy insights to shape environmentally responsible design outcomes from concept to construction.
This role is perfect for you if you want to:
- Lead or support whole life and embodied carbon assessments across a range of project types.
- Apply circular economy principles to design, procurement and end-of-life strategies.
- Collaborate with project teams to embed low carbon, resource efficient solutions.
- Conduct carbon modelling using tools such as OneClick LCA or similar.
- Translate complex data into clear insights through reports, visuals and presentations.
What you’ll bring to the studio:
- A degree in architecture, engineering, environmental design or a related field.
- 3–7+ years’ experience in embodied carbon analysis, circular economy or life cycle assessment.
- Proficiency with carbon assessment tools such as OneClick LCA, eTool, SimaPro or Tally.
- Understanding of frameworks such as EN 15978, RICS NRM, ISO 14040, LETI or GLA WLC.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical data to diverse audiences.
Qualifications and skills:
- Experience working with BIM (Revit), material quantification and supply‑chain engagement.
- Strong organisational, analytical and collaboration skills with a proactive mindset.
- Ability to manage sensitive information and work effectively under pressure.
- Passion for decarbonisation, sustainable materials and innovation in the built environment.
- Desirable: skills in Python, PowerBI or GIS, plus chartership or active involvement in networks such as LETI or UKGBC.
