We're now looking for a Senior Fire Engineer to join our expanding Fire Safety team. This is an opportunity to shape strategy and delivery on some of the world's most ambitious architectural projects β working directly alongside architects, engineers, and specialists within one collaborative studio environment.
You'll play a key role in providing expert fire engineering input across all stages of design, ensuring performance, compliance, and creativity work hand-in-hand. From concept through to construction, you'll develop innovative solutions that enhance safety, functionality, and design integrity.
As a senior member of the team, you'll also mentor others, contribute to technical standards, and help grow Foster + Partners' in-house capability in this increasingly critical discipline.
Key Responsibilities- Lead fire engineering input across multidisciplinary design teams on major global projects
- Provide technical advice and performance-based design solutions from concept through delivery
- Develop and review fire strategies, risk assessments, and fire safety reports
- Undertake and interpret advanced analysis (e.g. CFD, evacuation modelling, structural fire engineering)
- Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and consultants to integrate safety seamlessly within design intent
- Support internal R&D, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement of design tools and processes
- Mentor and develop junior fire engineers, contributing to the wider growth of the discipline within the practice
- Degree qualified in Fire Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng)
- Strong understanding of UK and international fire safety codes, standards, and performance-based design
- Skilled in risk assessment, quantitative analysis, and fire dynamics
- Competence with CFD and modelling tools (e.g. FDS, Pathfinder, or equivalent)
- Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with architects, clients, and multidisciplinary teams
- A creative mindset with the ability to balance technical precision and design vision
