About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Mechanical & Electrical Supervisor to join the Mitie Projects team supporting NATS at Swanwick and Whiteley.

This role is suited to an individual with a strong background in mechanical and electrical building services and proven experience supervising works within complex, highly regulated, and ideally Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) environments.

The successful candidate will provide day-to-day supervision of mechanical and electrical activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality and compliance.

The role requires close collaboration with project managers, engineers, specialist contractors, and client stakeholders to coordinate activities within live operational environments, ensuring minimal disruption to business-critical services.

The postholder will act as Mitie’s on-site representative, promoting safe systems of work and ensuring works are delivered in accordance with contractual, statutory, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise mechanical and electrical installation, maintenance, refurbishment, and minor works activities across multiple projects.
• Coordinate and manage specialist subcontractors, ensuring works are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
• Ensure all works comply with relevant legislation, industry standards, client procedures, and Mitie policies.
• Review and implement Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), ensuring safe systems of work are understood and followed by all personnel.
• Conduct site inspections and monitor workmanship to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and quality standards.
• Coordinate daily activities and provide effective site leadership to ensure programme and productivity targets are achieved.
• Support the management of permit-to-work systems and ensure compliance with site access and operational procedures.
• Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and daily briefings to promote a positive health and safety culture.
• Liaise with NATS stakeholders, project managers, engineers, and contractors to coordinate works within live operational environments.
• Identify and escalte technical, programme, quality, or safety issues that may impact project delivery.
• Maintain accurate site records, including diaries, progress reports, quality documentation, and completion records.
• Support commissioning and handover activities, ensuring all required documentation is completed.
• Maintain accurate red-line mark‑ups throughout project execution and ensure all as‑built documentation is reviewed, updated, and handed over on completion to support the integrity and ongoing maintenance of site infrastructure.
• Ensure works are delivered in accordance with the requirements of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and support the effective discharge of Principal Contractor duties where applicable.
• Promote a positive culture of health, safety, environmental responsibility, and quality throughout all project activities.
• Ensure high standards of housekeeping are maintained across work areas.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to enhance project delivery and operational performance.
• Be available to undertake out-of-hours works where project requirements demand; such works will be reimbursed in line with company policy.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Recognised qualification in a mechanical or electrical discipline (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
• Demonstrable experience supervising M&E works within commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or similarly complex environments.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical building services installations.
• Experience coordinating and supervising specialist subcontractors and managing site activities.
• Good understanding of current health and safety legislation and safe systems of work.
• Knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Willingness and eligibility to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance.

Desirable

• Experience working within Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) or other highly regulated environments.
• Existing SC clearance.
• SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
• IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent.
• First Aid at Work qualification.
• Experience working within live operational facilities.
• Knowledge of permit-to-work systems, isolations, and lock‑off procedures.
• Familiarity with commissioning, testing, and handover processes.
• Experience supporting projects delivered under Principal Contractor arrangements.

• Additional Information
• The role will involve working across both NATS Swanwick and Whiteley sites, with occasional travel between locations and other NATS facilities where required.
• Projects are often undertaken within live operational environments and therefore require a high degree of professionalism, planning, and attention to detail.
• Due to the nature of the environment, applicants must either already hold Security Check (SC) clearance or be willing and eligible to undergo the required vetting process.
• Out-of-hours and weekend working may occasionally be required to support operational and project delivery requirements and will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy.
