Kumquat is an award-winning, 2 AA Rosette restaurant on The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells, and we are looking for an experienced full-time waiter or waitress to join our front of house team. We are looking for someone who genuinely understands good hospitality and wants a proper, permanent full-time position. This is not a casual or temporary role. We need someone reliable, experienced and available when the restaurant is busiest, including evenings and weekends.

For the right person, we are offering a strong package of £30,000 basic salary plus approximately £5,000 per year in service charge, giving expected total earnings of around £35,000 per year.

The role

You will work approximately 40 hours per week over 5 days, according to the rota. Our normal service times are:

  • Lunch: 11am-4pm
  • Dinner: 5pm-11pm

The rota will include a mixture of dinner shifts and split lunch/dinner shifts. You will be expected to confidently manage your own section, look after guests properly and work closely with the rest of our front of house and kitchen team.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has good previous experience in a quality restaurant, hotel or similar hospitality environment
  • Can confidently manage their own section during a busy service
  • Has excellent customer service skills
  • Genuinely enjoys looking after guests
  • Is comfortable explaining dishes, taking orders and making recommendations
  • Is reliable and turns up when expected
  • Remains calm and organised during busy services
  • Has strong attention to detail
  • Works well as part of a small team
  • Takes pride in doing things properly
  • Is available to work evenings and weekends
  • Is looking for a permanent full-time position rather than occasional shifts

Experience with wine and drinks would be an advantage, but attitude, reliability and good restaurant experience are more important.

Progression

The initial position will be at waiter/waitress level. However, there is genuine opportunity to progress within the restaurant. If you prove yourself to be reliable, capable and able to take responsibility, we would be very happy to consider progression into a supervisor role after a few months. We would rather promote someone who has shown us what they can do than simply give out job titles from day one.

What we offer

  • £30,000 basic salary
  • Approximately £5,000 service charge
  • Expected total package circa £35,000
  • 40-hour working week
  • 5 days per week
  • Permanent full-time employment
  • Staff meals while working
  • Holiday entitlement
  • Workplace pension
  • Training and development
  • Genuine opportunity for progression
  • Work in an award-winning 2 AA Rosette restaurant
  • Small, professional and friendly team
  • Direct involvement with the owners of the restaurant

Kumquat is independently owned and run, so good people are noticed and valued. We have high standards and expect people to care about what they do, but we also want the restaurant to be an enjoyable place to work. If you are an experienced waiter or waitress, want stable full-time hours and are looking for a restaurant where you can become an important part of the team, we would be very interested in meeting you.
