Role Overview
The Account Manager will actively engage with our members to ensure they receive genuine value from their membership. This is a relationship focused, commercially aware role with responsibility for member retention and identifying opportunities for collaboration.
Job Responsibilities:
- Actively engage with members on a regular basis through phone, email and in-person attendance at events, discussing matters of importance to them and advising as required.
- Cross-identify opportunities for member-to-member collaboration and arrange introductions as necessary.
- Update members on upcoming events, encouraging attendance and inviting participation.
- Stay abreast of policy and legislative changes and economic factors which could affect our members; hold thoughtful conversations and provide relevant updates.
- Keep relevant members informed of grants, funding opportunities or dispensations available to their business.
- Attend Chamber events as a representative of membership engagement.
- Hold meetings with members to understand how the Chamber can serve them more effectively.
- Manage annual membership renewal conversations; understand and record the reasons where a business chooses to leave.
- Assist in marketing efforts by suggesting relevant content, articles or mailers of interest to the membership.
- Maintain the CRM system, keeping contact details, business information and key stakeholder records up to date.
Person Requirements:
- Experienced business professional who is commercially astute and confident communicating with senior stakeholders.
- A social chameleon able to adapt tone, language and approach to suit a wide variety of audiences.
- Personable, warm and genuinely interested in people and their businesses.
- Highly organised with a structured, process-driven approach to managing a portfolio of members.
- Demonstrable experience in account management or relationship management.
- Flexible and willing to attend occasional evening events.
Desirable:
- Experience working within a membership organisation, trade body or similar stakeholder-facing environment.
- Familiarity with CRM systems and data management.
- An understanding of the local Bedfordshire business community.
