About the role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor in our Commercial Programme at London Gatwick, you will work on the full project life cycle, developing and maintaining cost estimates and cost plans for fast‑turnaround, revenue‑generating projects such as retail units, car parks and office refurbishments. Reporting to the Programme Commercial Manager, you will manage costs and contracts to ensure the financial efficiency and feasibility of construction projects.

What will you do?

  • Prepare detailed budgets and cost estimates at various project stages, from initial concept to final construction, including internal costs.
  • Control project costs and prevent overruns by tracking expenses and identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
  • Conduct accurate measurements, rate analysis, and risk assessments.
  • Regularly update cost plans to reflect design changes and market conditions.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure projects are completed within budget and provide optimal value.
  • Support the development of appropriate procurement strategies and run procurement exercises.
  • Administer contracts for design and construction contracts as they are awarded, including change management.
  • Accurately report on spend, anticipated final cost and forecast future months’ expenditures through to completion.

Do you have what we’re looking for?

  • Previous experience in a cost engineering, contract management or commercial role within the construction or infrastructure sectors, working on projects typically over £2 million.
  • Quantity Surveying Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering, construction, or business‑related field.
  • Full working knowledge and understanding of web‑based contract management tools (e.g. Cemar).
  • Thorough understanding of the NEC suite of contracts, and associated contract administration and negotiations.
