A training provider with a strong reputation in apprenticeship and vocational delivery is looking for a Functional Skills Coach to join their team on a permanent basis.

You’ll manage a caseload of up to 50 learners aged 16+, delivering Maths and English through a blend of remote sessions and one day per week on-site in Barnsley — with a genuine focus on progress and outcomes rather than just compliance. This is a role for someone who understands adaptive teaching, knows how to work with learners facing real barriers, and wants to be part of a team that takes quality seriously.

The role:

  • Deliver Functional Skills Maths and/or English to learners aged 16+ across remote and face-to-face formats
  • Plan and deliver individualised learning journeys informed by initial assessments and diagnostics (Century Tech)
  • Manage a caseload of up to 50 learners, tracking progress via OneFile and meeting a minimum of 14 learner visits per week
  • Contextualise delivery to learners' vocational sectors to drive engagement and retention
  • Support learners with SEND and additional learning needs through adaptive teaching strategies
  • Intervene early where learners are at risk and maintain accurate, timely records in line with funding requirements

We're looking for:

  • Proven experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and/or English to post-16 learners
  • Solid understanding of SEND and inclusive/adaptive teaching practice
  • Experience using diagnostic assessment tools (Century Tech desirable) and e-portfolio platforms (OneFile preferred)
  • Familiarity with Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework
  • Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DET or equivalent) — desirable but not essential
  • Enhanced DBS required (or willingness to obtain)

What's on offer:

  • £28,000–£32,000 salary
  • Predominantly remote with one day per week in Barnsley
  • 35 days leave (25 days + bank holidays + birthday + Christmas shopping day)
  • Westfield Health Plan (post-probation) and Health Assured from day one
  • Early finish on the second Friday of every month
