Overview SFIA Level 3–5 | Mid-level to Lead (hands-on)

We are supporting a small number of trusted National Security engineering teams who are quietly building and operating systems that genuinely matter.

These roles will likely appeal if:

  • You are blocked on progression where you are, despite doing the right things technically.
  • You are feeling underutilised in a large prime, far from decisions and real ownership.
  • You want to stay hands-on, but with clearer pathways to senior or lead responsibility.
  • You value flexibility and trust, not presenteeism or "high-side for high-side's sake".
  • You are looking for a mature, calm environment where engineers are backed and listened to.

What you will be doing:

  • Designing, building and running secure, resilient platforms.
  • Owning delivery end-to-end, not just pipelines or tickets.
  • Collaborating in calm, well-run teams with clear technical leadership.

Core tech (experience across some of this is enough):

  • CI/CD: Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub Actions.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Ansible.
  • Automation-first, security built in.
  • Ability to code (e.g. Python, Java or Go) is a strong bonus, not a must.

Working pattern:

  • Hybrid across all roles.
  • Regular, planned time on secure / high-side environments.
  • More flexible than is typical in the space, with expectations set upfront.

Why engineers stay:

  • Genuinely mature engineering environments.
  • Clear progression from mid-level through to lead while staying technical.
  • Teams that invest in people, not just delivery.
  • Long-term programmes, not churn-and-burn projects.

UK nationals only due to clearance requirements. Existing clearance is helpful, but not essential for all roles. Up to £90k–£95k (SFIA 5 / lead-level IC) dependent on experience, level and clearance pathway.

If you are curious rather than actively looking, that’s fine. This is one worth a quiet, no-pressure conversation.
