Waythrough launched in October 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Our vision is to break down the barriers that stop people getting the support they need to live a life they value. We tackle poverty and disadvantage in communities, through mental health, drug and alcohol, housing and related support.
We have almost 200 services around England – and nearly 3,500 amazing staff and volunteers who run them. Every year our services support around 125,000 people.
Bringing together two big organisations is not a small task and it’ll take a while to fully integrate our systems, processes and approaches. That’s why you will notice the jobs here are still branded ‘Humankind’. Next year we’ll be fully integrating our recruitment systems but for now they are separate.

Young Adults Drugs and Alcohol Worker – Maternity Cover (1st October 2025 – 28th September 2026)
Location: Leeds, citywide (driving licence required)
Working hours: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm
About the role…
To work as part of the Forward Leeds Young Persons Team to deliver drug and alcohol related interventions for young people (up to 21 years or 24 years depending on vulnerability) across Leeds. Work delivered will be outreach so based in schools, colleges, Youth Justice Centres and Community Venues.
Responsibilities will include:
- Case Management: Be the driving force behind the drug and alcohol treatment journeys of young adults. Conduct assessments, develop personalised care plans, and deliver interventions that truly make a difference.
- Community Promotion: Amplify our services within the community by building strong relationships with local organisations. Empower young adults and their families through engaging education and awareness sessions.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain the highest standards of care by implementing and adhering to service policies and procedures. Conduct thorough audits and keep meticulous records.
About you…
- Youth Work experience with young people who are care or care leavers experienced or those with have lived independently: We are looking for candidates with a solid foundation in working with young adults with complex needs.
- College or University Background: If you have experience in college or university environments, it\’s a significant advantage! Showcase your ability to connect with and support young adults in educational settings.
- Compassionate and Supportive: Possess exceptional interpersonal skills, with a non-judgmental and empathetic approach that uplifts young adults on their journey to recovery.
- Team Player: Thrive in a collaborative environment, actively engaging in team meetings, supervision, and professional development opportunities to grow and flourish.
- Self-Motivated and Resilient: Exhibit unwavering initiative, adaptability, and the ability to thrive under pressure, ensuring the best outcomes for the young adults in your care.
