The Stores Manager is responsible for the efficient control, storage, movement, and accuracy of all materials, components, consumables, and finished parts used in the manufacture of car transporters. The role ensures uninterrupted production through effective inventory management, goods inward/outward control, stock accuracy, and leadership of stores personnel while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Inventory & Stock Control
- Maintain accurate inventory records using ERP/MRP systems.
- Monitor stock levels and reorder materials to avoid shortages or overstocking.
- Conduct regular cycle counts and annual stock takes.
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies promptly.
- Control obsolete, damaged, or slow-moving stock.
- Goods In & Goods Out
- Oversee receipt, inspection, and storage of incoming materials.
- Ensure all deliveries match purchase orders and quality requirements.
- Coordinate dispatch of finished goods, spare parts, and subcontract items.
- Maintain accurate documentation for all stock movements.
- Production Support
- Ensure timely supply of parts and materials to production lines.
- Work closely with Production, Purchasing, and Planning teams to support build schedules.
- Prioritise urgent material requirements to minimise downtime.
- Warehouse & Stores Operations
- Organise warehouse layout for efficiency and safe material handling.
- Maintain clean, safe, and compliant storage areas.
- Implement FIFO (First In First Out) practices where appropriate.
- Manage consumables, tooling, and PPE stock levels.
- Team Management
- Supervise stores operatives, forklift drivers, and warehouse staff.
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor performance.
- Train team members on procedures, systems, and health & safety requirements.
- Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company H&S procedures and warehouse regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and safety inspections.
- Ensure safe operation of forklifts and lifting equipment.
- Support ISO quality and environmental standards.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve stock accuracy, space utilisation, and workflow efficiency.
- Support lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives.
- Develop KPI reporting for inventory accuracy, stock turns, shortages, and delivery performance.
