Our client provides high quality overhaul, maintenance and servicing of passenger rolling stock, locomotives, freight wagons and track plant. They operate throughout the UK from six strategic locations β Crewe, Bristol, Eastleigh, Cambridge, Tyne Yard and Scarborough.

The Role
You will be responsible for managing an effective, high performing and safety focussed team, delivering excellent customer service, people and production management across all HM Projects as well as building and maintaining strong customer relationships, demonstrating solid commercial acumen, and budget management capabilities. Ensuring consistent procedures in place and adhered to across all HM locations, delivering excellent audit results and customer satisfaction.
What Youβll Do
- Consistently deliver heavy maintenance contracts and ensure all projects adhere to the HM Process.
- Lead on the development and delivery of action plans to recover variances identified.
- Critically review and analyse project performance data to inform continuous improvement in project deliverability and margins.
- Work with HM Managers to develop and deliver excellent manpower planning systems to ensure managers can accurately and effectively deploy their resources in line with high level targets, budgets, skills and competency matrices.
- Ensure competence assessment and audit compliance across all HM teams and projects.
- Ensure full HM engagement with all mobilisation planning for new projects with all actions delivered on time.
- Play an active part in providing insight to talent mapping and succession planning processes to ensure the retention and development of employees whilst working closely with the Engineering Team to develop skills across all teams at all levels, adding input to the technical training and development programme to ensure training needs for projects and personal development captured and scheduled appropriately.
- Responsible for all aspects of people management, including probationary reviews, absence meetings, investigations, grievances, disciplinaries and appeals.
What You Bring
- Qualifications β NVQ Level 4 certificate in Engineering, BTEC certificate in Engineering, City & Guilds certificate in engineering, Prince 2 qualified, people management training.
- Experience β involvement & understanding of rail vehicle maintenance (traction & rolling stock), an understanding of depot operations, an ability to interpret engineering drawings and an understanding of production efficiency techniques, an ability to collaborate with others to solve problems, able to work independently, project management.
About You
- Proven experience of leading a team within a heavy maintenance or similar engineering environment.
- Proven track record of successfully managing complex programmes.
- Strong ability to deliver applicable health, safety and environmental standards and requirements.
- Previous experience of production efficiency tools and techniques i.e. Lean/6S.
- Good understanding of ROSCO/TOC/FOC relationships.
- Good working knowledge of all company management accreditations ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
