If you know your way around an engine, can fault‑find quicker than most people can find their keys, and take real pride in keeping things running safely and smoothly, keep reading. I’m working with a well‑established engineering team who are looking for a skilled Engineering Technician (mechanical or electrical) to join their depot in Selby. This is one of those roles where what you do really matters — keeping vehicles safe, compliant, and performing exactly as they should day in, day out.

The Role

You’ll be part of a hands‑on engineering team responsible for maintaining and repairing a busy fleet. No two days are the same, but if you like problem solving, working with your hands, and getting things right the first time, you’ll feel right at home.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Diagnosing faults across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • Carrying out repairs and planned maintenance to a high standard
  • Completing safety inspections and compliance checks
  • Using diagnostic tools to troubleshoot more complex issues
  • Keeping accurate records of all work carried out
  • Playing your part in keeping the fleet safe, compliant, and ready to go

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience working on PSV / HGV / heavy vehicle engines and systems
  • Relevant qualifications (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent)
  • Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic ability
  • Good understanding of vehicle systems (air braking, electrics etc.)
  • A solid approach to health & safety
  • Someone who can work independently but also as part of a team

This would be a great fit for ex‑military engineers (REME, RAF, Royal Engineers etc.) coming from vehicle maintenance backgrounds — but open to anyone with the right experience.

What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive salary (based on experience)
  • Ongoing training and development
  • Long‑term, stable career
  • Strong benefits package including pension and travel perks

If you’re looking for a role where your skills are valued and you can genuinely make a difference day‑to‑day, this is definitely worth a chat.
