Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

Location: Billingham
Salary: £59,500 including shift allowance + regular overtime available
Hours: Continental shift pattern
Contract: Permanent, full-time

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a busy engineering team within a well-established heavy manufacturing environment.

Working a continental shift pattern, you'll play a key role in keeping plant and equipment running safely and reliably, responding to breakdowns, completing planned maintenance and carrying out installation work across electrical and mechanical systems.

This is a genuinely hands‑on position for an engineer who enjoys fault-finding, problem-solving and working with industrial plant rather than spending their shift staring at a maintenance spreadsheet.

With a package of £59,500 including shift allowance plus regular overtime opportunities, this could be an excellent move for an experienced maintenance engineer looking for a technically varied role within a large-scale manufacturing operation.

  • What You’ll Be Doing
  • Responding to electrical and mechanical breakdowns and faults.
  • Carrying out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across plant and equipment.
  • Diagnosing faults logically and completing repairs effectively to minimise downtime.
  • Carrying out electrical installation work where required.
  • Supporting the maintenance and management of site electrical and control systems.
  • Working with PLC and plant control systems.
  • Ensuring maintenance activities meet relevant electrical, mechanical and safety compliance requirements.
  • Completing appropriate risk assessments before undertaking work.
  • Recording planned and reactive maintenance activity accurately.
  • Liaising with and supporting third-party contractors working on site.
  • Working closely with engineering, production and other stakeholders across the business.
  • Supporting the wider maintenance team in improving plant reliability and performance.
  • What We’re Looking For

You’ll need

  • A recognised apprenticeship in Mechanical or Electrical Maintenance, or an equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Previous hands‑on maintenance experience within an industrial, manufacturing, process or heavy engineering environment.
  • Strong electrical and/or mechanical fault‑finding ability.
  • Experience diagnosing and responding to plant and machinery breakdowns.
  • Good understanding of planned and reactive maintenance.
  • The ability to work safely and methodically within an industrial environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • The confidence to work both independently and as part of an engineering team.

Knowledge of PLCs and plant control systems would be particularly advantageous.

  • The Package
  • £59,500 including shift allowance
  • Regular overtime available
  • Permanent position
  • Continental shift pattern

You’ll be joining an established international engineering and manufacturing operation producing highly engineered components for demanding industrial applications.
